Player of the Week winner

McKenna Monahan, Glencoe-Silver Lake. Monahan was methodical from the field in a 38-point performance in a 79-72 win over Hutchinson. She shot 17 of 21 from the field and went 2-for-3 on three-point attempts.

Player of the Week candidates

Sam Haiby, Moorhead. A Nebraska recruit, Haiby became Moorhead’s all-time leading scorer and set a single-game record with 45 points against Brainerd back on Nov. 28, but she topped that last with with a 46-point effort in a 54-49 win over White Bear Lake on Dec. 9.

Joey Batt, New Ulm. Batt scored 38 points in a 71-66 victory over St. Peter, which matched her season high she set a game earlier in a 75-62 win over Jackson County Central. She’s averaging 31.8 points per game.

Morgan Hill, Minneapolis South. Hill had a big week with two 30-point games. She scored 33 against Burnsville in an 84-60 victory and added another 30 points in a 68-57 win over Chaska. In between she had 26 against South St. Paul in a 76-49 win.

Paige Bueckers, Hopkins. Bueckers matched a season high with 30 points in an 81-55 win over Lake Conference rival Minnetonka. She added 29 against Shakopee in an 81-61 win and 27 against Iowa City West.

Emma Grothaus, Mahtomedi. Grothaus has the Zephyrs flying high this season. She’s averaging 26.8 points per game and finished with 28 in a 69-59 win over Mounds View. Then she poured in 24 points in an 84-64 win over St. Paul Como Park.

Brynne Rolland, Apple Valley. Rolland led Apple Valley with 28 points in a 54-51 come-from-behind victory over Minnetonka at the Breakdown Invitational at Hopkins High School. She also had 24 points in a 57-51 loss to Champlin Park.

Kacie Borowicz, Roseau. Borowicz was brilliant last week, posting back-to-back 30-point games. She scored 30 in a 75-73 win over East Grand Forks and then went for 32 in a 73-72 loss against Badger/Greenbush-Middle River.

Abby Lewis, Austin. A junior forward, Lewis scored 33 points in a 66-61 win over Rochester John Marshall to lift the Packers. Austin has won back-to-back games since losing its opener to Stewartville.

Sidney Fick, Hill-Beaver Creek. The junior forward put up 32 points in a 79-44 win over Fulda. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Patriots.
