Eden Prairie is favored to win back-to-back Class 2A titles for the second time in the past dozen years. The Eagles also won consecutive crowns in 2002 and 2003. Senior Aaron Greenberg heads the Eagles' returning group. He is the defending champion in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle. He also was a member of the Eagles' victorious 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams. The 200 freestyle foursome established a state meet record time of 1 minute, 23.9 seconds.
Class 1A's elite
In the 2012 state meet, the winning time was faster in Class 1A than in 2A in half of the eight individual swimming events. Two swimmers who return for their senior seasons, Mitchell Foster of Breck/Blake and Paul Fair of Monticello, accounted for half of those times. Foster won the 100 backstroke in 49.34 seconds and the 200 individual medley in 1:53.27. Fair took first in the 100 butterfly in 49.35 seconds and the 200 freestyle in 1:40.75.
True Team chase
The True Team state meet has been dominated by Lake Conference schools in Class 2A and St. Thomas Academy in 1A. The Cadets have won all eight Class 1A True Team championships. In Class 2A, Lake teams have captured the past five crowns, including Eden Prairie last season. Edina or Minnetonka won the previous four titles. The True Team state meet will be held Jan. 26 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
